What does an eXp sponsor actually do?

By Chris Sanford · Reviewed October 27, 2026

At eXp Realty, a sponsor is the agent a new agent names during the official joining process. Sponsorship is established through that official process and the joining agent's own declaration — not through a website, a form, or a conversation.

Sponsor vs. mentor vs. team leader

  • Sponsor: the agent named on your application. What a given sponsor personally offers varies by person; ask them directly and get specifics.
  • Mentor: guidance on transactions for newer agents, provided through brokerage programs. Confirm current program details with eXp's official resources.
  • Team leader: someone you work under on a team, with its own agreement and splits.

Questions to ask a potential sponsor

  • What do you personally do for the agents you sponsor — specifically?
  • How do I reach you, and what can I expect?
  • What can you not help with?

Respecting existing relationships

If you are already talking with another eXp agent about joining, continue that conversation with them. A good sponsor relationship starts with honesty about who introduced you.

Fees, programs, and sponsorship procedures can change. Confirm current details with eXp's official resources before deciding.
