What should I ask before switching brokerages?
By Chris Sanford · Reviewed October 27, 2026
Changing brokerages is a business decision, not a fix-all. Start by naming what is actually holding your business back, then ask questions that test whether a new brokerage would change it.
Start with your own business
- What do I most want to improve in the next 12 months?
- Is the gap my process, my tools, my available time, or the support I receive?
- What have I already tried, and why didn't it stick?
Questions to ask any brokerage
- What support is available to me on day one, and who provides it?
- What are the current fees and costs, and where is that documented officially?
- What happens to my pending transactions and listings during a move?
- What am I required to attend, pay for, or use?
- Who will I actually talk to when I have a question on a deal?
Questions to ask yourself afterward
- Did the answers address the gap I named, or something else?
- What would I do differently in my own routine regardless of where I hang my license?
A brokerage change rarely fixes a prospecting or follow-up habit by itself. Get clear on the need first — then evaluate options against it.
