eXp Revenue-Share Tiers and Qualification: Read the Current Structure

A tier chart combines relationship structure and qualification rules, which are easy to confuse. This guide separates those ideas, identifies the dated changes behind the current threshold framework, and explains why an unlocked level does not automatically generate income.

The direct answer

eXp’s revenue-share structure uses seven successive sponsorship tiers. Its published changes opened the first three tiers without a front-line qualifying-agent threshold, set thresholds of 5, 10, and 15 for tiers four through six, and lowered tier seven to 30. Those qualification thresholds do not guarantee payment; the current plan, qualifying production, relationship position, and individual eligibility still control.

Key takeaways

  • A tier describes a relationship position, not an income level.
  • FLQA thresholds determine access to specified compensation components.
  • Dated program changes supersede conflicting legacy charts.
  • An unlocked tier still needs qualifying production to generate compensation.

Separate network position from qualification

In a straightforward sponsorship chain, the people you directly sponsor occupy the first relationship layer; successive sponsorship relationships form deeper layers. A qualification threshold is a different concept: it concerns which compensation components your own status makes available.

Do not assume that reaching a qualifying count moves you personally to a higher tier. It changes what can be earned from relevant positions in the network. Likewise, the existence of people in a deeper layer does not establish that their transactions qualify or that you meet every condition for a payment.

Use the dated threshold framework

The May 1, 2024 company announcement opened the first three tiers and set the tier-four-through-six thresholds. The June 30, 2023 announcement reduced the tier-seven requirement. Together they support the following framework for the North American program discussed here.

This table is about qualification thresholds. It is not a table of guaranteed dollars, universal country terms, or every percentage used in an individual calculation. Obtain the current payout chart for the precise country and arrangement you are evaluating.

Recognize why older charts create confusion

The public Revenue Share 101 page still contains a legacy threshold chart that differs from the dated announcements. A recent crawl date only indicates when a page was retrieved; it does not establish that every rule on the page was recently updated.

When two sources disagree, compare the effective date and document purpose. Save the current plan and ask the revenue-share team to identify the rule that applies to your account. Do not average conflicting numbers or select the version that makes a projection more attractive.

An original example shows what unlocking means

Imagine a hypothetical agent has twelve verified FLQAs. Under the threshold framework above, that count meets the published requirement through tier five but not tier six or seven for the compensation components tied to those counts. It says nothing by itself about the dollar value of transactions in any layer.

Now assume there are no qualifying transactions in tier five during a month. Access to that tier does not create revenue. If several eligible transactions occur in a different layer, the actual plan and relationships determine their treatment. Keeping count, position, and production separate makes the model easier to audit.

Do not mix percentages that use different bases

A chart may express a percentage of gross commission, adjusted gross commission, company dollar, or a revenue-share pool. Identical-looking percentages can produce different amounts when their bases differ. Before calculating, write the base in dollars and the rate beside it.

For a purely mathematical example, 10% of $8,000 is $800, while 10% of $800 is $80. The percentage is identical; the base changes the result by a factor of ten. This example does not state an eXp rate. It demonstrates why copying a percentage from a slide without its definition can create a materially wrong forecast.

Check relationship adjustments and individual eligibility

Co-sponsorship, international relationships, account status, and other program features can require more detail than a basic sponsorship diagram. Use the actual dashboard position and current documents rather than drawing a tree from memory. A person who influenced an agent’s decision and the position used in a particular calculation should not be assumed identical in every arrangement.

Read the FLQA explanation for the production qualification and co-sponsorship eligibility when an additional sponsor is involved. These topics answer different parts of the calculation; none should be used as a substitute for the complete payment detail.

Maintain a qualification audit trail

  1. Save the current plan and payout-chart version.
  2. Record your verified FLQA count and relevant date.
  3. Identify the generating agent’s actual relationship position.
  4. Confirm that the transaction and your account meet applicable requirements.
  5. Apply the documented base and rate, including any adjustment shown.
  6. Reconcile the calculated result with the payment record.

The objective is an understandable calculation, not the most impressive network diagram. A clear audit trail also helps you explain the program accurately to someone considering the brokerage.

Common follow-up questions

Does unlocking a tier guarantee income from it?

No. Qualification access and revenue generation are separate. There must still be eligible underlying production and a valid calculation under the current plan and your status.

Why do some charts show forty FLQAs for tier seven?

Older material can remain online after a program changes. The company’s June 2023 announcement reduced that threshold. Compare dated sources and obtain the current account-specific plan.

Are tier percentages always percentages of gross commission?

No assumption should be made without the chart’s definition. Identify whether a rate applies to GCI, an adjusted amount, company dollar, or a pool before multiplying.

Does this table apply everywhere eXp operates?

It summarizes the cited North American threshold changes. International arrangements, co-sponsorship, and account-specific terms require their own review. Use the applicable current country documentation.
